Services offered for General Crime victims and those close to them

At Lakes Crisis & Resource Center the General Crime Program is for crime victims who do not fit into the category of domestic violence or sexual assault.  Specific examples of general crime are harassment,  terroristic threats, burglary, robbery, fraud, kidnapping, arson, and elder abuse. Other examples include trespassing, disturbing the peace, vandalism and assault.

Assistance with reparations and restitutions

Systems advocacy for  support through medical, police, and legal proceedings

Referral and community resource information

Personal advocacy and counseling referrals to help with emotional trauma

Assistance with Harassment Restraining Orders

Victims may be eligible for financial assistance from the state known as reparations if they have suffered economic loss as a result of a crime. Victims can also request the court to order the defendant to provide financial compensation for the victim known as restitution.  

• Right to be notified of victim’s rights
• Right to attend the sentencing hearing
• Right to be notified of any changes in court proceedings schedule
• Right to be notified if the offender is transferred from prison or custody
• Right to inform the court of the impact of the crime at the sentencing hearing
• Right to object to a proposed disposition, sentence, or plea agreement
• Tampering with a witness is a crime in Minnesota
• Employers may not punish or dismiss victims/witnesses who are called to testify in court
