![]() | Patricia Ann Spitzmueller, 71, was shot in the head and killed on July 18, 2024, in an apartment in Minnetonka. Authorities determined that Patricia’s husband Kenneth Spitzmueller, 76, shot and killed Patricia before killing himself. Patricia is described as a gifted textile artist and Spiritual Director who brought “a bright spark of light” to those around her, as well as endless creativity and warmth. She was widely admired for her award-winning quilt art. Patricia Ann Spitzmueller is survived by five children. |

![]() | Janet Louise Andersen, 82, was stabbed and killed in her home in Annandale on September 12, 2024. Rodney Andersen, 85, Janet’s husband, is charged with 2nd-degree intentional homicide. Janet and Rodney Andersen were married for 65 years. Police were called to the home the morning of the 12th, where they found Janet’s body with several wounds to her abdomen. Rodney Andersen told police they “continuously argued” throughout their marriage and that they had “a big argument” starting around 7am that morning, during which he grabbed a knife in the kitchen and stabbed Janet before calling 911. |

![]() | Damara Alexis Kirkland, 35, was shot and killed in her North End St. Paul apartment on October 19, 2024. Kirkland’s ex-husband, Mychel Stowers, 36, is charged with intentional second-degree murder of Damara, and second-degree murder of an unborn child. Damara was estimated to be eight to nine weeks pregnant. Police found Damara lying in her bedroom on the night of October 19 after residents reported gunshots. Stowers also shot a man in the leg and stole his car shortly after killing Damara. On the day of the shooting, Stowers had been granted a pass to visit Damara from the halfway house he was living in. Damara and Stowers, who had married in December 2021, were in the middle of a divorce initiated in June. At the time of this writing, Stowers has not turned himself in. We remember Damara Alexis Kirkland. |

![]() | Lyle Maske, 62, was fatally shot in Brainerd on November 1, 2024 after intervening in a domestic violence incident. Chad Aanerud, 35, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, five counts of kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of first-degree arson, and one count of theft. Aanerud is suspected of sexually assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend in Brainerd on or around the night of October 31st after threatening to shoot her children if she did not engage in sexual activity. He then began dumping gasoline on her family members’ home, which later burned to the ground, and began taking firearms from the home. His ex-girlfriend asked her children to go down the road to Lyle’s home to ask for help. Aanerud fatally shot Lyle when he arrived to intervene. Aanerud then kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and her children at gunpoint and fled by vehicle as a statewide Amber Alert was sent out. He was eventually arrested on the morning of November 1st and his ex-girlfriend and children were recovered. Aanerud was legally prohibited from possessing firearms at the time he killed Lyle, and had a felony conviction for threats of violence against an ex-girlfriend in 2021. |

![]() | Samantha Koehne, 38, died as a result of probable asphyxia on November 2, 2024 in a home in Edgerton. Joseph Benson, 35, described as Samantha’s boyfriend, is charged with second-degree murder. Police were called to the home in Edgerton on November 2nd, where Samantha and Benson were housesitting, after Benson told the homeowner he had killed Samantha. Police found Samantha with a cord wrapped around her legs and across her body. They also found a video of Benson following Samantha, in which she showed the camera bruises on her face that she stated were from him beating her. |

![]() | Dejuan Hemphill, 24, was shot in St. Paul on November 5, 2024 and died in the hospital on November 15, 2024. Kenneth Terry, 18, and Jehovah Nelson, 19, were arrested for the murder. Terry was charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, and Nelson was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. Dejuan and his two cousins were walking in St. Paul when Nelson shot Dejuan and then fled with Terry. A woman told investigators that she had previously been in a relationship with Terry and had a child with Terry. The woman stated that Nelson shot Dejuan because Terry was jealous that she had been spending time with one of Dejuan’s male family members. Investigators believe Terry and Nelson attempted to kill Dejuan’s cousins as well. Dejuan leaves behind a four-month-old baby. We remember Dejuan Hemphill. |

![]() | Andrea “Drea” Broyld, 41, was shot and killed inside a home in Red Wing on November 17, 2024. Darryl Nixon Jr., 41, is charged with one count of second-degree murder. Andrea was in a relationship with Nixon Jr. and they were issued a marriage license in August. Police were called to Nixon Jr.’s home on November 17 after Nixon Jr. allegedly informed the caller that Andrea had been shot and was “gone.” When police arrived, Nixon Jr. made more comments about shooting Andrea, and then locked himself in his residence, prompting a three hour standoff before surrendering. Andrea was then found dead inside the home. She had been shot 10 times. Andrea “Drea” Broyld, who worked at Starbucks, was described as “one of the nicest people ever, always greeting people with a smile and writing encouraging notes on your cup to start your day.” |

![]() | Apostle L, 61, was killed in a car crash on or around December 13, 2024. Nicholas Price, 37, is charged with one count of fleeing a police officer resulting in someone’s death and one count of criminal vehicular homicide, in addition to charges for threats of violence and domestic assault by strangulation. On the night of December 13, Price’s ex-girlfriend called police to report that he had shoved her against a wall, strangled her, and threatened to light her on fire. Several hours later, police spotted Price’s vehicle in Roseville and attempted to conduct a traffic stop to pull him over for the domestic assault, but Price fled. As more police officers joined the pursuit, Price continued to flee. He reached speeds of 50–60 miles per hour over the speed limit without his lights on, and eventually crashed into Apostle’s car in Maplewood. Apostle was trapped in the car and told officers he couldn’t breathe. He was removed from the car and transported to the hospital, where he later died. We remember Apostle L. |

![]() | Kristi Joy Gardner, 57, died from multiple gunshot wounds in a home in Lake Crystal on January 9, 2025. Police were alerted by a 911 caller who stated they had found her unresponsive in the home. Police then determined that Kristi had been in a relationship with Gary Rodewald, 64, and went to find Rodewald. They found him unresponsive in his garage in New Ulm as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in Minneapolis where he died of his injuries on January 11, 2025. Police stated that they were investigating Kristi’s death as a murder-suicide, and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office determined her death was a homicide. Rodewald had several convictions for violating Harassment Restraining Orders and Orders for Protection dating as far back as 2000, though it is unclear against whom. |

![]() | Tabitha Renee Justice, 46, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head on January 28, 2025 at an abandoned property in Jordan. Tabitha had been reported missing earlier that day by a relative who said they had not seen her since December 10. Police officers found Tabitha’s body in a nearby outbuilding when they went to her last known address. On May 23, 2025, John Peterson, 41, was charged with second-degree murder. Tabitha’s friends told police that Tabitha had been in a relationship with Peterson and had at some point been living with him. Tabitha’s friends said Tabitha told them Peterson was “physically aggressive” and “very controlling.” They also informed police that Peterson kept “finding and following” Tabitha after he had allegedly made her leave his home. Peterson was previously twice convicted for weapons or ammunition offenses and was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm when he killed Tabitha. |

![]() | Sam Nordquist, 24, was killed on or around February 13, 2025 after prolonged physical and psychological abuse and torture from the following seven people. Precious Arzuaga, 38; Jennifer Quijano, 30; Kyle Sage, 33; Patrick Goodwin, 30; Emily Motyka, 19; Kimberly Sochia, 29; and Thomas Eaves, 21, are all charged with first-degree murder. Sam, a Black trans man from Minnesota, traveled to New York from Oakdale, MN in September 2024. His family stated he traveled to New York to meet his girlfriend, Precious Arzuaga, whom he had met online. Sam’s family gradually lost contact with him, and the few phone calls they did have often had Arzuaga present. On December 4, 2024, Sam’s family was notified by social services that Sam had gone to their offices and expressed that Arzuaga was controlling his cell phone use, and that he wanted to come home and was trying to come up with an "escape plan.” He never showed up for a December 19 appointment, and his family last heard from him on January 31, 2025. His family’s requests for welfare checks led to the eventual discovery of Sam’s body in a field in New York on February 13, 2025. |

![]() | Sefiya Churiso Datu, 29, was stabbed to death in St. Paul on February 26, 2025. Sefiya’s husband, Kedu Husen Buseri, 34, is charged with second-degree murder. On the afternoon of February 26, Buseri called 911 and said someone had killed his wife. When officers arrived they found Buseri covered in blood and Sefiya wrapped in a blanket with a knife near her head. A baby was found on a nearby bed but was physically unharmed. Another woman was also present but was not injured. Sefiya was taken to the hospital and died shortly afterward. Buseri told police he and Sefiya had an argument and he slapped her, then began cutting her. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Sefiya died as a result of multiple sharp force injuries, including a large cut across her throat, cuts on her face, and a cut on her bicep. |

![]() | Janet Vercruysse, 36, was shot and killed inside a home in Waite Park on April 12, 2025 by her boyfriend De’Mico Elyea-Goss, 29, who then shot and killed himself. On the afternoon of April 12, police were across the street on a separate call and heard gunshots from the home. A 5-year-old child and an 8-year-old child, both Janet’s children, ran out of the home and alerted police to the murder-suicide. When police entered, they found Janet and Elyea-Goss deceased. Multiple firearms were also found inside. |

![]() | Hulda Bochere Mosiori, 42, was killed by her former partner Mel Melchizedek, 51, on April 22, 2025 in Ramsey, Minnesota. Melchizedek then killed himself. On the morning of April 22, police received a call indicating that Melchizedek confronted a neighbor with a gun before returning to a home nearby. A shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area. Police eventually managed to enter the home, where they found Hulda and Melchizedek deceased. An official determination of the cause(s) of both deaths has not yet been released. |

![]() | Christine “Chrissy” Morris, 33, was stabbed to death in St. Paul on or around May 2, 2025. Her boyfriend Joseph Davis, 34, is charged with second-degree murder. Early on the morning of May 2, police were called to a welfare check at the home Christine and Davis shared, where they pronounced Christine dead at the scene. Their two-year-old daughter was found physically unharmed. Before police arrived, Davis had called a family member and a previous partner and told both of them that he had killed Christine. The previous partner told police she had feared he would kill her (the partner) or someone else at some point. Davis has a history of violence against Christine. He was sentenced in May 2023 and January 2024 for gross misdemeanor domestic assault against her, and had also violated a no contact order prohibiting him from contacting Christine. Davis also has a prior domestic assault conviction in 2018 for abusing another woman he was in a relationship with. In September 2024, Christine told a friend that if she or her daughter ended up dead or went missing, Davis would be the person responsible. |

![]() | Danielle Grace Warren, 32, was stabbed to death on May 7, 2025 in her home in Burnsville. She was stabbed nine times in the neck, torso, and head while several children were in the home. Her boyfriend Jason Filas, 48, is charged with second-degree intentional murder. Police were called to the home on the morning of May 7, where they found Danielle deceased inside. Filas was later arrested in Lakeville. Earlier this year, a no-contact order was issued prohibiting Filas from contacting Danielle after a March 13 assault in which he grabbed her by the hair, pulled her head down, and took her cellphone. In the court filing for the no-contact order, Danielle noted she was afraid of Filas and was concerned he would hurt her. Police found him in violation of the order on April 2 while in a car with Danielle. Filas was set to be sentenced for that violation on July 9. Though it is unknown why, a judge vacated the no-contact order on April 23. |

![]() | Kinsley Prinsen, 2, was shot and killed inside her home in Minneapolis on June 9, 2025. Kinsley’s father Scott Devery, 50, shot and killed Kinsley and then himself in front of Kinsley’s mother, with whom he had been in a relationship for seven years. Kinsley’s mother told the media that Devery held her and Kinsley hostage in their home, and that she was unable to call 911 for fear of him seeing her phone. Kinsley’s mother said that before Devery shot and killed himself and Kinsley, he told Kinsley’s mother that he was “going to make sure that I live in misery the rest of my life without my baby girl and without him.” Kinsley was running to get a hug from Devery when he killed her. |

![]() | Note: While we document intimate partner homicides, we also document homicides that result from a perpetrator’s refusal to accept romantic rejection, as these deaths frequently occur in a context of misogyny and overwhelmingly impact women. To be clear, Kayli was not in a relationship with the man who killed her, and he chose not to accept this. Because of this, we honor and remember her. Kayli Grace Arseth, 22, was shot and killed in her apartment in Richfield on June 16, 2025. Jose Luis Lopez Xique, 27, is charged with second-degree murder. Kayli and Xique had recently met online, but the relationship was not romantic or sexual. Xique repeatedly pushed for a romantic relationship despite Kayli repeatedly telling him no and preferring friendship. A series of text exchanges about this occurred in the days prior to her homicide. On June 16, the day of her murder, Kayli again told Xique she did not want a relationship. At some point during this conversation, Xique had already broken into her apartment and was texting her from there. She later arrived home from work and never answered when her friend arrived for scheduled plans. On June 17, officers responded to a welfare check and found her dead in her apartment. She had been shot in the head. Xique was arrested on July 3. When officers arrived to execute a search warrant at his residence, he told them to “hurry it up.” During their search, police found a Glock 9mm firearm, a red dot sight adapter plate and a "Tactical Media Acquisition Kit" containing camera accessories, hard drives, and flash drives. |

![]() | Lindsey Kaye (Adams) Graff, 29, was shot and killed on June 17, 2025 in a home in Chisholm, Minnesota. Lindsey’s ex-boyfriend Leo Schweiss, 34, shot and killed Lindsey and shot another man who was present. Schweiss also shot and killed himself. When police arrived on scene, they found Lindsey and Schweiss dead. The other man was taken to the hospital for his injuries and survived. A shelter-in-place order had been issued for the surrounding area that lasted about four hours. |

![]() | Melissa Hunt, 36, was shot and killed in Wabasha County, Minnesota on June 18, 2025. Craig Hameister, 44, Melissa’s ex-partner and the father of her youngest daughter, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree manslaughter. On the afternoon of June 18, police were called to the West Newton area, where Melissa was found badly injured. She had driven into someone’s driveway to ask for help. Melissa had been shot in the face, which resulted in severe facial injuries. Her teeth were falling out and a portion of her jaw was missing. Melissa was taken to the hospital, where she passed away. Hameister was arrested on June 19 after he fled and hid from the police for several hours, which also triggered a shelter-in-place order in Marion Township the prior night. He was found with a pistol. Hameister has a history of domestic violence which includes stalking, terroristic threats, and domestic assault charges and convictions dating at least as far back as 2006. |

![]() | Anissa Cope, 49, was stabbed to death on June 28, 2025 in her home in Duluth. Anissa’s husband Corddarro Cope, 37, is charged with second-degree murder. On the night of June 28, a neighbor called 911 indicating that they heard a woman screaming for help and being “thrown around” while a man told her to shut up. First responders found Anissa dead in her home. She had been stabbed in her arms, abdomen, and neck. As the neighbor called 911, Corddarro Cope fled by vehicle. He was later located on I-35 in Pine County and was taken into custody. Wisconsin court records show Corddarro Cope pleaded guilty to violent offenses against a different intimate partner several years ago. One of these assaults occurred in 2018 and another occurred against that same victim in 2019. In both cases, Cope was facing multiple serious felony charges—including felony strangulation—but pleaded down to misdemeanor domestic battery. |

![]() | Crystal Marschel, 32, was shot and killed in a home in Pierz, Minnesota on July 18, 2025. Crystal’s boyfriend John Gans, 34, shot Crystal in the head and then shot and killed himself. Authorities were called to the home that morning for a welfare check, where they found both Crystal and Gans deceased. Jail records for Benton County indicate that Gans was arrested in June 2023 on multiple domestic assault charges, including domestic assault by strangulation, but the records do not indicate against whom. |

![]() | Connie Lea Pollock, 56, was shot and killed by her husband Jack Pollock, 63, inside a residence in Outing, Minnesota on August 13, 2025. Early that morning, first responders received a report of a structure fire in Outing. When they arrived at the residence, it was engulfed in flames. First responders found Connie and Jack’s bodies inside. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined Connie died from a gunshot wound to the chest, while Jack died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police ruled the deaths a murder-suicide. |

![]() | Allison Lussier, 47, was found dead by police on February 22, 2024 in her Minneapolis apartment. She died of a subdural hematoma, but the Medical Examiner’s office stated her death was not the result of homicide. Allison was Indigenous, and her family has questioned the Examiner’s finding. Her family has been vocal about dismissive treatment from the police and have stated that Allison’s former partner should be investigated for her death. Allison’s former partner had a long, documented history of domestic violence against her, and police took as many as seven reports from her starting as far back as August 2022 detailing the domestic abuse. Allison called police to her apartment on February 17, but no arrest was made. Her family continues to fight for adequate investigation into her death. Allison was described as “kind, generous, caring, loving and well respected from her community.” |

![]() | Marcus Antwan Martin, Jr., 28, was strangled to death in Mayo Park West in Rochester on June 15, 2024. Bystanders directed police to Marcus, who was lying dead in the grass. On June 26, police were informed that Ruth Ann Miller, 26, wanted to talk with them about Marcus’s death. Miller claimed that she and Marcus engaged in a sexual interaction in the park and that afterward he asked her to kill him, at which point she strangled him. On March 17, 2025, Miller was sentenced to 27 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree non-premeditated murder with intent. At the time of this report, Miller’s claims of a sexual interaction have not yet been substantiated, and there has been no additional information about her relationship with Marcus leading up to his murder, if they had a prior relationship at all. |

![]() | Victoria Jo Gamble, 38, was strangled to death in her apartment on or around August 12, 2024. Christopher Neal, 45, is charged with two counts of 2nd-degree murder, one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and one count of theft of a motor vehicle. Victoria and Neal were seen on security camera footage leaving a Sauk Rapids bar together early the morning of August 12, where they went to Victoria’s apartment. Neal later left the apartment alone. He was later found in a Louisiana hotel with Victoria’s stolen car. According to court documents, on August 1, Neal was charged with domestic assault strangulation in Aitkin County in a case involving another victim, and was released on bail. On August 12, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office reported a violation of a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) that was put in place between Neal and the victim in that assault. A warrant was then issued and he was formally charged for the violation on August 19 after being arrested for Victoria’s murder. As of this time, the exact relationship between Victoria and Neal remains unclear. Victoria Jo Gamble was described as “very social and loved being around people and her friends, but most of all loved spending time with her two boys.” She leaves behind two children. |
2023-2024
Devon Michael Adams, 27, was shot and killed in a Cub Foods parking lot in Fridley on March 9th. Devon was sitting in his car when he heard an unknown woman screaming. He immediately left his car and rushed to help. The woman’s abuser then shot Devon, killing him. Devon’s aunt says, “If you knew Devon, you knew his heart was big and he was always willing to give a helping hand. He loved his pup, Grace, she went everywhere with him. He loved being outdoors whether it was for work, on a boat, or just driving around.” Devon is remembered as a hero who gave his life saving a stranger. * This murder took place in March of 2023, but wasn’t discovered to be domestic violence related until later. So, we are including him in the memorial this year. | |

James Craig Koutsky, 47, was shot and killed in Deer River in the early morning hours of June 9th. James was visiting a female friend’s house and they fell asleep on the couch. The friend’s boyfriend was angry about this and woke him up. After a brief argument, the boyfriend pulled a gun and shot James five to six times. James was described as a “Jack of all trades” and a handyman. He enjoyed helping other community members and was always willing no matter what. James leaves behind his treasured son, as well as his parents, sister, brother, and many nieces and nephews. *This took place in June of 2023, but wasn’t discovered to be domestic violence related until months later. So, we are including him in the memorial this year. | |

Sarah Kathryn Patrick, 30, was shot and killed on August 3rd in Minneapolis by her boyfriend, who then killed himself. Sarah told her friends that she wanted to leave the unhealthy relationship and focus on improving herself. She was an incredible artist, painter, and was excited about a recent promotion at work. A friend reported, “we are devastated that someone would extinguish the light of such a vibrant, resilient person…she moved through the world with an optimistic wonder that inspired everyone she met.” Sarah is loved and missed by her parents, younger sister, and a vast community of friends. | |

Betty Jo Bowman, 32, died on August 20th in Rochester. Betty was admitted to the hospital on August 16th after feeling ill. Betty’s condition continued to decline, and she died four days later. The medical examiner concluded she was poisoned. After an investigation, her husband was arrested for her death. Those who knew Betty have described her as a loyal, caring friend, exceptionally thoughtful, and a kindred spirit. Betty was a Pharmacist at the Mayo Clinic who inspired and encouraged others to be their most authentic selves. She leaves behind her beloved corgi, Crumpet, and so many special friends and loved ones. | |

Melanie Michele Jansen, 54, and her daughter, Hannah, were shot and killed by Melanie's partner at a resort in Breezy Point on September 5th. For those who knew Melanie and Hannah, you knew the words that quickly defined them were kind, generous, selfless, and genuine. And you also knew how passionate they were about caring for people. Melanie worked as a hair stylist for over 30 years and loved to help her clients look and feel their best. Melanie leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Austin and Veronica, along with many close family members and friends. | |

Hannah Nicole Parmenter, 29, and her mom, Melanie, were shot and killed by Melanie’s partner at a resort in Breezy Point on September 5th. A friend commented, “My heart is shattered, and my soul is crushed. Two of the most beautiful, selfless loving souls I have ever known were senselessly and tragically taken from us. They were an absolute blessing to everyone they encountered.” Hannah shared a business with her mom where she worked as an esthetician. She leaves behind her husband, Jason, along with many family members and friends. | |

Sarah Jane Carda, 35, was shot and killed by her husband on October 6th in her Fish Lake Township home. Sarah's mother called 911 when she heard arguing inside the home. According to her family, “Kayla was a really caring person who cared about and loved everyone. She was a good cook and had a great sense of humor… Kayla worked really hard, but she loved even harder. Her family meant the absolute world to her. She leaves a legacy of strength, love, and kindness and will be missed beyond measure.” Kayla leaves behind five young children as well as many family members and friends. | |

Justin accompanied his girlfriend to the park to meet with the father of her 3-year-old daughter. Justin was shot immediately after stepping out of the vehicle. Shaqita Monique Thomas, 39, was strangled to death by her boyfriend on November 17th in her St. Paul apartment. A friend of Shaqita’s said she’d been on a FaceTime video call with her, and she was crying as “a man repeatedly yelled” at her in the background. Shaqita told her friend the man was mad at her for spending the night at the emergency room with her estranged husband because of her son’s asthma. Shaqita’s body was found 2 days later in her apartment concealed by an air mattress. Shaqita leaves behind one son. We remember Shaqita Thomas. | |

Savannah Ryan Williams, 38, was shot and killed on November 29th in Minneapolis by a man she met at a bus stop. The man became “suspicious” of Savannah, so he shot her and left her body on the sidewalk. Savannah’s partner described her as a loving, caring person, while her friends described her as fierce and full of life. She had a big personality and an even bigger heart. Savannah’s loved ones and members of the city’s LGBTQ+ community are mourning her death and call on lawmakers to address the epidemic of anti-trans violence. | |

After reports of a shooting, police forced their way into Kesha’s home and found her with a gunshot wound. Kesha’s sister said, “we have a very close family, and Kesha is our business partner, our sister, our friend, our guidance counselor, like everything.” Kesha leaves behind a family home health care business that she ran, and more importantly, two kids and a grandson. | |

Meredith Marie Martell, 35, was stabbed and killed at her home in Marshall on December 17th. Police were called to the residence on a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers witnessed Meredith's partner stabbing her. Police first tased the man, then shot and killed him. Unfortunately, several of Meredith’s children were home to witness the deaths. Meredith loved spending time with her children, she always knew how to keep a smile even through the hardships she faced in life. She leaves behind five minor children, one adult daughter, and a grandson. | |

Franclin Ignacio Orellana, 44, was shot on December 16th, and later died on December 18th, in Minneapolis. Franclin was with a friend at a bar when his friend got into a dispute with the boyfriend of a woman he was dancing with. When Franclin and his friend left the bar they were followed outside where the fight escalated and ended with Franclin being shot. Franclin’s family says he will always be remembered for his big smile, contagious laugh, charisma, and warm heart. Franclin leaves behind his four children, wife, and an incredible amount of family and friends. | |

Jayden Lee Kline, 18, was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend outside her Fridley home on December 21st. He shot her in the car, pushed her body out onto the driveway, and sped away. Jayden had just graduated high school where she was on the swim team. Her family says Jayden was beautiful, brilliant, and big-hearted. She opened her door with arms spread wide and a big smile, offering a tight hug to anyone – human or animal - who needed comfort or a safe place. She was a force of nature, and she was unstoppable. | |

Her husband called 911 to report the murder and he surrendered to police. Kayla was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Her brother says “my beautiful sister was taken from this world, leaving two young children and a family devastated.” | |

Adam was a fire fighter, paramedic, and SWAT medic with the Burnsville Fire Department. He was offering aid to an injured officer when he was shot. Adam joined the army shortly after 9/11 where he served two active-duty tours in Iraq. His family says, “Adam truly brought a light to everyone’s lives. His immense caring and loving attitude left an impact on this world, although he would never admit to it.” Adam leaves behind a wife and two children that he adored. | |

Allisa Marie Vollan, 27, was killed in her boyfriend’s home in Duluth on March 22nd. Earlier in the month, Allisa’s boyfriend was arrested and charged with domestic assault after kicking and slamming her head into the door. A Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO) was issued, which her boyfriend continued to violate. She was later found dead in her boyfriend’s apartment with injuries on her face, neck, and chest. Her family shared that she had “an abundance of great friends that stuck with her through life. She always looked forward to her next adventures and the new friends she could meet. She’s loved and remembered by all her family and friends.” | |

Standing outside the car screaming, “get out of the car or I will kill you”, he opened fire hitting Toumai and killing him. It is believed that the shooter was attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend, and Toumai was struck instead. We don’t know much about Toumai, but we honor his life and remember him. |
Amir Demarion Harden, 8, was shot by his father on June 5th in his Burnsville home, and died in the hospital on Sunday, June 9th. Amir’s mother was attempting to end the relationship with his father after a long history of abuse. His father grew more and more angry, got a gun, and was attempting to shoot his mother. Amir wrestled his father to get the gun away, and Amir was shot in the head and neck. Amir’s four siblings were present and witnessed the shooting. Amir, a student at Echo Park Elementary, will be remembered as "a leader, a protector of his siblings," and "was known for his infectious smile and kind heart." | |

Liara Kaylee Tsai, 35, was killed in her home in Minneapolis on or about June 21st. When police arrived at the scene of a car crash, Liara’s body was discovered in the car that her former romantic partner was driving. It was determined that Liara’s death was not due to the crash, but that she was killed by sharp force injuries. Liara was a beloved member of the trans community in Minnesota and will be remembered for her work as a DJ and activist, as a volunteer for the Trevor Project, and as a crisis counselor for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Loved ones describe Liara as having a “magnetic personality and incredibly unique presence,” and as an exceptionally talented artist. Liara leaves behind her beloved dog, a brother, two sisters, nephews, and a community of friends that were like family. | |

Jaelyn Nichole Walker, 14, was stabbed and killed by her ex-boyfriend in Moorhead on or about August 20th. Jaelyn was reported missing around 12:35am and police searched the area of her last known location, where they discovered her body on the banks of the Red River. Jaelyn is described by loved ones as beautiful, blue eyed, fearless, and feisty with a beautiful voice who loved singing, fishing, cats, anime, and spending time with her family. “Words cannot ever express how much Jaelyn meant to us. We will cherish every one of her 14 years. Every single memory we have with her will last us a lifetime. She is so loved, incredibly missed, and we will carry her in our hearts forever.” | |

Payao Vang, 27, was shot and killed by her husband in Empire on August 25th. Payao’s stepson became concerned when she and her husband didn’t return home after a trip to their farm. When he and another family member went to the farm, they found her body in a field with a gunshot wound. We don’t know much about Payao, but we honor her life and remember her. |

Carissa had arrived at the home and was attacked when she tried to pick up the children. Carissa’s five children under the age of ten witnessed the beating and strangling. Two of the children went outside and were able to flag down a car to get help. Carissa’s family describe her as a “mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, friend, creative photographer, pumpkin spice connoisseur, and child of God.” Carissa was actively involved in her church, and she made being a mom her greatest privilege. Carissa will be deeply missed, but her selfless example lives on in our hearts. |

Police responded to a fire at the apartment, and after it was extinguished, they found Shanna’s body. She was found with extensive stab wounds and other injuries. Shanna was dedicated to her family and loved her fur babies, Scully and Gucci. Her family says, “We loved Shanna and our fond memories of her will live forever in our hearts. Although her life was taken so abruptly, we are so grateful God blessed us with her beautiful presence.” |

Jasmine graduated from Willmar Senior High School and continued her education online obtaining a two-year degree in music production. Jasmine was crafty and spent time crocheting, drawing, painting, and using resin art. She enjoyed penguins, listening to music, and coloring her hair. The male coworker’s wife had told her husband she wanted a divorce that morning before work. At lunchtime, the wife got into a vehicle with Adrian to have lunch. The coworker got into the vehicle behind Adrian and told him to either leave the vehicle or drive away. Adrian was killed when he did not comply. Adrian enjoyed music, football, and spending time with friends. One friend writes, “It was a privilege getting to know him. He was very kind, affectionate, and funny. I will miss him a lot.” | |

Corrina Dawn Woodhull, 41, was stabbed and killed by her estranged husband in St. Paul on March 21st, 2023. The two were attending a group bible study when the attack took place. Friends and family who were there stopped the attack and subdued the killer until the police arrived. Corinna worked at a substance use disorder treatment facility in St. Paul, and often volunteered at nonprofit organizations and ministries. A friend said, “She was always doing something for somebody else, always trying to make other people’s lives a little less broken.” Corrina leaves behind 2 adult and 3 minor children. | |

Family members say Madeline was passionate about her work, and they often speak of her humor, fierce loyalty, and undying spirit; “we will sorely miss her smile, her bubbling laughter, her beauty, her intelligent mind, and her charm, as well as the way she folded everyone she met into her heart. Donshay is remembered as “very outgoing. She was one of many that kept the family together. She was always the one who was checking on everybody. Joshua Anthony Owen, 44, was shot and killed in the line of duty by a domestic violence suspect in Cyrus on April 15th, 2023. Josh, a Pope County Sheriff Deputy, was responding to a DV call at an apartment with one other deputy and a Starbuck police officer. While inside the apartment, the suspect drew a firearm and began openly shooting, striking all 3 officers, and ultimately killing Josh. Joshua leaves behind his wife and a minor son. Josh served his country in many capacities, including the Army with deployments to Bosnia and Iraq, being an accomplished diver on the county’s dive team, and a former member of the county’s SWAT team. Josh enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and weightlifting. Josh also loved dogs and was the department’s current K9 officer. | |

Manijeh “Mani” Starren, 33, was killed by her boyfriend on or around April 21st, 2023 in St. Paul. Mani was reported missing by her family on May 1st. Mani was last seen on surveillance footage being chased, caught, and dragged back into her apartment by her boyfriend on the night of the 21st. Mani was a loving mother of 3. According to her best friend, “her most important thing is spending time with her kids”. Mani was also known to make friends everywhere she went because “she has this positivity and patience and kindness that she shows you no matter who you are”. | |

Sabrina Lee Schnoor, 25, was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend under an I-35 overpass in Owatonna on May 29th, 2023. She suffered years of abuse before she left. Sabrina was last seen on surveillance, being shoved under the overpass, then him leaving alone moments later. Sabrina leaves behind a young son. Sabrina enjoyed fishing, camping, music, being in nature, and was a lover of all animals. Sabrina’s mother now uses her voice to raise awareness about DV, urging others to seek help. Her family describes her as “such a joyful person, always holding on to her goofy, childhood spirit. She always saw the good in others…” | |

Angela Marie McClelland, 49, was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by her husband in Fort Ripley Township on June 25th, 2023. Angela and her husband attended a birthday party on the 24th, then got into an argument on the drive home. Angela’s body was found on the side of a road the next morning with significant trauma and abrasions consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Angela is survived by her six children and several fur-babies. Friends and family described Angie as “loving hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and was a phenomenal constructor of bonfires”, and “sometimes she was shy and quiet while other times she was loud, eccentric, and often the center of those that gathered around her.” | |

Danicka served her country with pride and had a love for all animals, earning a degree in animal science in 2007. During the early morning hours, a fight occurred between two groups of teenagers and young adults at the park. When the fight was deescalating, the ex-boyfriend and his friend intentionally drove the car into a group of people. Darisha loved to spend time with her extended family members and had a passion for all animals. Darisha’s parents say, “she was a well-loved, goofy, kind-hearted person who could light up any room, and had plans to become a veterinarian someday.” | |

Jean Harriette Mart, 77, was killed by her husband in her Perham home on July 16th, 2023. Jean’s husband admitted to hitting Jean’s head against their granite floor, killing her, before going to bed. The following morning a standoff between the husband and SWAT teams began, but he eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. Jean’s cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries and a gunshot wound to the head. Jean’s tribute wall describes her as having an infectious laugh, always giggling, loving her 5 grandchildren, and enjoying bingo with friends. | |

Mary was described as a “rolling stone, traveling and living in many, many places. Mary had countless stories about her adventures and always spoke her mind.” Mary’s family say her taste in music was impeccable, she was generous and caring, and she lived hard, but loved harder.
